How we create change

What We Do

We believe every child deserves the opportunity to walk, learn and live independently. Our work focuses on three key areas that help make that possible across Zanzibar and Pemba.

Treating club foot early

The Infant Club Foot Appeal was founded to help children born with club foot access life changing treatment.

Club foot is a condition that affects mobility from birth, but with early intervention it can often be treated successfully. Without access to care, children may face lifelong mobility challenges that affect their confidence, education and future opportunities.

We help fund clinics, treatment materials, medical equipment and training so families can access care closer to home. By supporting early intervention, we help children take their first steps towards a healthier future.

This work remains at the heart of everything we do and continues to transform lives across Zanzibar and Pemba.

Restoring mobility through Walk With Us

For children and adults living with limb loss, mobility affects every aspect of daily life.

Without prosthetic support, attending school, travelling independently, finding employment and caring for family members can become incredibly difficult. For many people across Zanzibar and Pemba, this support was once extremely limited.

Through Walk With Us, we help provide prosthetics and orthotic support that restores independence, dignity and confidence. We also help create sustainable local services so people can access repairs, adjustments and ongoing support closer to home.

Every prosthetic provided represents far more than movement. It represents opportunity.

Creating access to education

Healthcare alone is not enough if children are still unable to access education.

As our work grew, we saw many children facing barriers at school due to inaccessible buildings, unsafe facilities and limited resources. Even after receiving treatment, many children were still being left behind.

Through the School Alliance Scheme, we help create safer and more inclusive learning environments by improving classrooms, sanitation facilities, water access and wider infrastructure.

Education opens doors, and every child deserves the chance to learn in an environment where they feel safe, supported and included.

Why this matters

These three programmes are deeply connected. Helping a child walk is life changing. Helping them move independently builds confidence. Helping them access education helps create long term opportunity.

Together, these programmes ensure children are supported not just in one moment of need, but throughout their journey toward greater independence and a brighter future.
